Endorsement: Lynette Gibson McElhaney for District 3

lynetteA long-time resident of West Oakland and an affordable housing provider, Lynette Gibson McElhaney was elected to the City Council in 2012 and has served as the Council President since 2015. Lynette Gibson McElhaney shares our policy priorities for better and more inclusive transportation infrastructure, and has provided valuable, consensus-based leadership on the City Council. Transport Oakland is enthusiastic to endorse Lynette Gibson McElhaney for Oakland City Council District 3.

McElhaney understands the inherent linkages between housing and transportation and is supportive of reducing parking requirements to improve affordability. She also shares our policy priorities to improve the safety and attractiveness of transit, walking, and cycling within Oakland and District 3. She has been a proponent of the Telegraph Complete Streets project and is committed to continuing to monitor, evaluate, and adjust to create a street that works and is safe for everyone. She’s supportive of big ideas such as replacing I-980 with a boulevard and new housing. She’s also committed to doing so in a way that maintains racial and economic diversity and inclusivity.

McElhaney finds common ground and shared vision and synthesizes solutions to challenging decisions, such as the most recently adopted Oakland city budget. McElhaney  is a proven collaborator, a broker of consensus, and gets things done. We firmly believe she is looking out for the best interests of all Oaklanders. It’s clear that Oakland is better as a result of the leadership Council President McElhaney has provided over the last four years, and we’re excited to help ensure she gets another four.
